Vancouver- The Undergraduates of Canadian Research Intensive Universities has released its COVID-19 Report. Drawn from the responses of thousands of students from 64 universities and colleges across Canada, the report recommends sweeping and timely action to help Canadian students.
83% of our respondents anticipated they would not be eligible for the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit. Matthew Gerrits, UCRU representative from the Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association says this will leave students in a financial gap, "[s]tudents still have rent to pay and need food to eat. Without support, there are students for whom that will not be possible." Gerrits added that it is not too late to remedy this, "[o]ur report provides a roadmap to ensuring these cracks in the current COVID-19 response are effectively addressed."
The Undergraduates of Canadian Research-Intensive Universities is a pragmatic, evidence-driven advocacy alliance of nine student associations dedicated to high-quality, affordable and accessible education, and represents over 250 000 undergraduate university students across Canada.
